Diligent detective work and honourable service is acknowledged at the Wellington District Awards this week.
Several police staff will be recognised for their achievements at the Wellington District Awards Ceremony being held at the Lower Hutt Town Hall from 2pm, this Thursday 13 June.
The awards ceremony will include the presentation of over 50 Long Service and Good Conduct medals (14, 21, 35 and 42 years’ service to Police), as well as District Commander’s Commendations to staff from Kapiti-Mana, Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Wellington.
Some of the commendations being presented are in relation to outstanding work by Wellington staff during Operation Nebraska, an investigation that spanned nearly five years and acknowledges staff whose work helped dismantle an organised crime group operating across five policing districts.
The crime group were involved in the production and supply of significant quantities of Methamphetamine and BZP, and were accumulating significant assets.
The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Justin Lester of Wellington City, Mayor Wayne Guppy of Upper Hutt, Mayor Mike Tana of Porirua, and Mayor Ray Wallace of Lower Hutt. Also attending will be Mayor Viv Napier of South Wairarapa, Mayor Lyn Patterson of Masterton, and Mayor John Booth of Carterton.
Police executives in attendance will be Assistant Commissioner Bill Searle, Acting Assistant Commissioner Sam Hoyle, Deputy Chief Executive Kaye Ryan and the Acting District Commander for Wellington Inspector Chris Bensemann.
Media who are intending to come are asked to email Jillian.Reid@police.govt.nz and should arrive at the venue by 1.45pm.
