How long does the process take?
The standard processing time for visa vetting requests is 5-10 business days. There is no urgent service available, and requests are processed according to when they are received. You will be notified by e-mail when your request has been processed and the result sent to the authorities.
Is there a cost involved?
There is currently no cost for vetting checks for visa purposes through the Police Vetting Service. If the Visa is required to be authenticated then there is a fee where you will need to arrange payment with the Department of Internal Affairs.
What information is provided?
A vetting check for visa purposes done by the Police Vetting Service provides a letter stating whether the applicant has any convictions recorded in New Zealand. If there are convictions, then a conviction history report listing the conviction and sentence details will also be provided.
The check is done under Section 14(3)(b)(ii) of the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004, meaning that the Clean Slate scheme does not apply. All convictions will be released, regardless of how old they are.
Can the results be sent to me?
No, all Visa letters are sent to the Embassy/Consulate directly. If you require Convictions held on yourself, please contact Ministry of Justice for a Criminal Conviction History check.
