The Fuzz: Police Moustaches
The Fuzz: Police Moustaches
Movember has become a tradition in New Zealand, with every November seeing men across the country growing moustaches to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer.
This Movember, The New Zealand Police Museum has uncovered photos that put some of the present day examples to shame. The Fuzz, one of the museum’s current exhibitions, highlights moustaches in the New Zealand Police since 1880.
Since the 1880s, Police staff have sported impressive moustaches, including recruits from recent years.
The museum also has a White Ribbon Day exhibition, supporting the campaign against violence towards women. The exhibition features objects from Police relating to domestic violence. Also on display is Forced to Strike: Waihi 1912, which remembers the brave actions of a police officer 100 years ago and the scars he carried for the rest of his life.
The New Zealand Police Museum is located at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua and is open Wednesday to Saturday 10am - 5pm. Entry is free.
