Wellington Police have executed four search warrants in Cannons Creek, Porirua this morning, related to the manufacture and supply of synthetic drugs.
Approximately two kilograms of product was found.
Officer in charge of Kapiti-Mana Criminal Investigations Branch, Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson says more than 50 staff were involved in the operation.
“As a result of the search warrants this morning, we have recovered a quantity of synthetic drugs and cannabis, as well as associated paraphernalia, cash and firearms,” he says.
“The Armed Offenders Squad, Asset Recovery staff and a number of specialist search teams were involved in this extensive investigation,” he says.
“Synthetic drugs are being cheaply imported into New Zealand, and their use appears to be steadily rising,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Ferguson.
A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
“Users are putting their lives at serious risk by even trying these illicit products.”
“We need the whole community to help us prevent this sort of harm. We need them to tell us who is infecting our community with these dangerous products.
“We hope today’s arrest sends a strong message to those thinking of targeting members of our community with these products.
“Any information on the manufacture or supply of illicit drugs should be provided in confidence to your local police station.”

The 22-year-old faces asset recovery action and will appear in the Porirua District Court today facing charges related to firearms, the sale, supply and manufacture of illicit drugs.
