"Great job, mate"
Commissioner Howard Broad joined Canterbury District Commander, Superintendent Dave Cliff yesterday to officially thank Australian police for their "fantastic effort" during Operation Earthquake.
Three days after the February 22 earthquake, 323 police officers from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Federal Police arrived in Christchurch.
They were sworn in as temporary New Zealand police officers and began patrolling the streets that evening.
The final rotation of Australian officers is returning home over the next few days.
The Australians were thanked with a poroporoaki (farewell ceremony) and presented with their own piece of pounamu (jade/greenstone).
