Hamilton detectives are investigating a suspicious fire that occured in the early hours of Saturday morning 26 November 2016.

The fire seriously damaged a car parked inside a carport at a Tauwhare Road, Hamilton address and Police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Terri Wilson of the Hamilton CIB said emergency services were called to the fire at the address about 3.00am and arrived to find the car and carport well ablaze.

"Prompt calls from the neighbours to the 111 service allowed fire-fighters to contain the blaze to the vehicle and carport, keeping the damage to a minimum." Mr Wilson said.

Police will be remaining at the address for the remainder of the day where a scene examination is currently underway.

Police are asking anyone with information on the fire to contact Detective Steve Stokes at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200. Alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
