Car crashes in to estuary in Ferrymead, Christchurch

Estuary crash in Canterbury

At about 2.10pm today,  emergency services were called to attend a grey BMW car which had  driven over a bank and crashed into an estuary in Ferrymead, Christchurch.

An elderly male driver and his female passenger were helped out of the vehicle by members of the public and assessed by ambulance staff for injuries.

Police will be assessing if alcohol was a factor in the crash and are currently completing a scene investigation to establish what has occurred.
