The NZ Police Recruitment #runningmanchallenge captured hearts and minds around the globe, and has captured the judges’ scores at the fourth annual New Zealand Social Media Awards, held last night in Auckland.
The video took out the Supreme Award, with the judges noting that the post was an “absolute viral sensation.”
Back in May, a group of officers polished their dancing shoes and rocked out to ‘My Boo’ by the Ghost Town DJs, with their best Running Man moves. The NZ Police then set down the #runningmanchallenge to other police districts across the world.
The response was outstanding, with Scotland Police playing bagpipes, to Miami Police dancing on the beach, and other emergency services taking up the challenge as well. The video on the NZ Police Recruitment page reached 30 million people, and has been viewed more than 10 million times.
NZ Police Deputy Chief Executive Public Affairs, Karen Jones, said: “We were incredibly humbled by the win. More importantly, we are thrilled that the campaign reached so many people, and gave them a special glimpse of the wonderful personalities behind the uniform.”
