After a significant closure due to damage, the Dunedin South police station will be reopening to the public tomorrow, says Acting Otago Coastal Area Commander, Inspector Kelvin Lloyd.
"Due to extensive damage caused by the flooding in the South Dunedin area in June 2015, the police station had to be closed due to safety concerns," Mr Lloyd said.
"The damage also meant a number of police teams were required to relocate to other stations while repair work was carried out.
"Police have worked closely with the contractors to ensure the station opened as quickly as possible so both the public counter could be reopened and police teams moved back in."
As of Wednesday 17 August, 2016, the public counter will be open on weekdays between 11am and 2pm for anyone wishing to report any matter or speak with Police in person. Police also remain contactable by calling station numbers, using our online contact forms, or calling 111 in an emergency.
Police have also moved the Family Harm team, South Dunedin Neighbourhood Policing Team and the local Community Constable back into the station.
"I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the contractors in ensuring the station repairs were completed as quickly as possible so we could reopen it to the public," says Mr Lloyd.
"I'd also like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we completed the repairs. Our main concern had always been ensuring the station was safe for the public and our staff before it was reopened."
An official reopening ceremony will be held in the near future. A date for this is still to be confirmed.
