Nearing the end of the road
Nearing the end of the road
Our 75th anniversary relayers are nearing the end of the road, with the great treks from the Far North and the Deep South ending in Wellington over the weekend.
The relays - celebrating the 75th anniversary of women in New Zealand Police - set out on June 24 from Cape Reinga and Bluff to travel through all 12 Police districts. They've gone from sea level to mountain range and above, and employed a dizzying variety of modes of transport.
All thoughts are now turning to Wellington's Golden Mile on Monday when current and former members of Police staff will be out in force - accompanied by police dogs, horses, and more - carrying the specially commissioned torches in the national parade from Civic Square to Parliament.
We set out at around 12.15pm, rain or shine, and aim to reach Parliament by 1pm. We'd love it if you'd come and cheer us on our way - and pay your own tributes to the generations of awesome Police women who have done so much for this country and its people since 1941.
See you there!
Meanwhile, here are a few more photos from the relay.
