The search for missing Upper Hutt woman Mary Berrington has this evening been suspended.
Mary was reported missing on Wednesday 20 July and since then Police, Land Search and Rescue teams, and community volunteers have undertaken an extensive search operation.
“A large number of people have worked tirelessly over the last four days to try and find Mary and bring her home to her family,” says Detective David Mason.
“An exhaustive search effort has been carried out and we have now completed searches of all reasonably possible areas where Mary could be.”
“I have spoken to Mary’s family this afternoon and while they are understandably hugely disappointed that Mary has not yet been found, they are immensely grateful for the efforts of the search teams and the support provided by the wider Upper Hutt community.”
“Although the search has been suspended, this does not mean that work will cease on trying to locate Mary. Police will continue with a missing person investigation and we are still keen to hear from anyone who may have seen Mary, or who thinks they may have information that would help us establish what has happened to her.”
Anyone with information that may be relevant is asked to contact Upper Hutt Police on 04 527 2300.
