At about midday on Saturday 4 June 2016 the premises of the Mitchell Downs Liquor Store, in Goldie Street Rotorua, was the subject of an attempted aggravated robbery.
Two men entered the premises, one of them armed with a hammer, and demanded money from the staff.
One of the staff members armed themselves with a stool from behind the counter, the other with a hockey stick. This resistance clearly unnerved the two robbers who fled empty handed.
The two men left the scene in a silver Mazda Demio car, registration number GGB700. This car was located dumped near the Linton Park Community Centre a short time later. It had earlier been stolen from Auckland.
The two offenders are both male and described as Maori and in their 20s. Both were wearing hoodies.
Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact Detective Constable Stef Graham at the Rotorua Police Station on 07 3480099. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
