Police are seeking information in relation to an assault on a liquor store shopkeeper this afternoon in downtown Auckland.
The shopkeeper is currently at Auckland Hospital receiving treatment for head injuries.
Police believe that the shopkeeper has been assaulted in the store at the intersection of Fort and Commerce Streets.
Up to four “good Samaritans,” described as male Polynesians in contractor-type clothing, have come to the aid of the shopkeeper. It is alleged that the offender has pulled a knife on these men, who have disarmed him while ensuring the injured shopkeeper was safe.
The “good Samaritans” have left the scene prior to police arrival. We would like to hear from these four men or any other persons that witnessed this assault. They are believed to have left the scene in a vehicle similar to a silver Toyota Previa, also described as a people-mover type vehicle.
Members of the public with any information are asked to ring 09 571 2800 to speak to the Auckland City Crime Squad.
A 25 year old man is in custody and will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow (May 20th) on assault charges.
