Two weeks since launching Operation Resolve, aimed at cracking down on burglars, the operation team has made 17 arrests.
Those arrested face a range of charges including burglary and receiving stolen goods. Multiple arrest warrants have also been executed by the Operation Resolve team.
Operation Resolve was established by Auckland City Police in an effort to target burglars and unresolved burglaries across the District. At team of 20 is currently working on the Operation based out of the Mt Wellington Police station.
Detective Senior Sergeant Iain Chapman, officer in charge of the Operation, said he was pleased with the results to date.
”The team has done a great job so far and we’ve managed to identify and locate some of the city’s most prolific burglary offenders, and they are now before the Courts. It is however very much an ongoing operation, and we will continue to work hard to identify and target those offenders who make a living off breaking into people’s homes. “
As well as the arrests, the Operation Resolve team has located a large amount of stolen property (pictured) during search warrants executed over the last two weeks, this property is now being identified in the hope that it can be returned to its lawful owners. Photos of some of these items will be posted on the Auckland Police Facebook page when available.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chapman also reiterated his earlier statements about community support for the Operation.
“Public support is a vital part of ensuring the success of this Operation and the continual effort by Police to reduce incidents of burglary. I ask that the community look out for each other. Get to know your neighbours. If you see anything suspicious, call the Police immediately.”
“Many burglaries can also be prevented by ensuring that your home and property are kept secured. If you have an alarm, make sure it’s on when you go out, install sensor lights and park your car off the road.”
