Balclutha school reopens after hoax call

1 min read

Balclutha Police have cleared a high school after a hoax bomb threat was made around 12.30pm today.

The South Otago High School received a phone call stating a bomb had been placed on site.

The high school was evacuated immediately and emergency services staff, including the Balclutha Volunteer Fire Brigade, were called to the scene with cordons placed in the surrounding streets.

Police completed a search of the school at 2.20pm and has cleared the college to reopen.

Emergency services continue to be frustrated when hoax calls are made as this consumes valuable personnel which may need to respond to other priority incidents.

Investigating into the source of the threat are continuing.
