Man sentenced on drugs charges

1 min read

Police say there is a continued strong focus on removing harmful drugs from the community, following the sentencing today of a Wellington man on a variety of drugs charges as part of a wider ongoing investigation.

Churton Park man Mason Tobin, 28, was sentenced in the Wellington District Court today to three and a half years after pleading guilty to 9 cannabis related charges as part of Operation Hive, a wide-ranging Police investigation focused on the organised criminal distribution of methamphetamine and the commercial cultivation and sale of cannabis throughout the Porirua, Wellington and Hutt Valley areas.

Estimates are that the cannabis grown and supplied by Tobin as part of a sophisticated hydroponic growing operation over a five year period had a harvested street value of at least $150,000.

“Today’s sentencing reflects our continued focus on removing these harmful drugs from the community and holding those responsible to account,” says Detective Inspector Stu Graham, of the Organised and Financial Crime Agency New Zealand.
