Paraglider injured in New Plymouth

At approximately 9.10am on Saturday 16th January 2016, Emergency Services were alerted to a 48-year-old male who had crashed his paraglider into rocks approximately 1.5km south of Back Beach car-park, New Plymouth.

Emergency Services were alerted to this incident by a companion of the injured male who was nearby.

Due to the location of the male, the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter, Police Search and Rescue, Fire and Ambulance personnel were deployed to assist the male.

The male was successfully transported to Taranaki Base Hopsital.

Initial investigations indicate that the male had attempted to land the paraglider on the beach, however had underestimated the distance and crashed into the rocks.

The male has sustained injuries to his leg as a result of this incident.
