Canterbury Police are able to name the victim of the fatal single-vehicle crash on the Ashburton Gorge Road near Mount Somers that occurred at approximately 10.45pm on 23 December 2015. He was 36 year old James McLellan, known as Joe.
The death has been referred to the Coroner. Joe’s family are being supported by friends, family members and Victim Support.
The two other occupants of the vehicle, young children aged six and seven, have since been discharged from hospital and are recovering at home.
Police investigations into the crash are continuing.
