Canterbury Police Organised Crime Unit executed seven search warrants at addresses in the Christchurch Metro area this morning as part of Operation Stone.
This operation is part of a continued focus by Canterbury Police to target gangs and the distribution of methamphetamine throughout the South Island says Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney.
“It’s important to remove methamphetamine from our communities as the associated harm to individuals and families is significant and cannot be underestimated. This Operation also sends a signal to Gang members and their associates that Police will detect, disrupt and deter organised crime in the region and hold those responsible to account.”
Quantities of methamphetamine and cannabis have been seized along with four firearms, ammunition and stolen property. This includes two caravans, one of which is valued at $65,000.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and locate the rightful owners so that their property can be returned to them.
“Police have also seized several motor vehicles as part of the Operation. So far Police have arrested two men” explained Detective Inspector Sweeney.
A 36 year old local man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court this afternoon (18 December 2015) charged with possession for supply of methamphetamine, two counts of offering to supply methamphetamine, conspiring to supply methamphetamine and offering to supply cannabis.
A 35 year old Christchurch man has been released on Police bail to appear in Christchurch District Court on 22 December 2015 charged with burglary.
Police investigations are continuing and further charges may be laid. The search of the addresses should be completed later on this afternoon.
This Operation will have a continued impact on the supply of drugs and stolen property in the South Island.
