Police are in attendance at the scene of a fire in a remote hunters hut in Western Southland which occurred at about 1.45 am this morning.
Two men were in the hut at the time. One man escaped but the second man died in the fire.
Police believe they know the identity of the man who died and are currently speaking with his family.
A scene examination will be carried out by police and fire safety investigators later today.
No other details are known at this stage.
