Canterbury Police would like to thank the public for supplying information in response to an appeal to identify the man found approximately 200 metres south of the New Brighton Pier on Sunday (22 November).
“While the information we received did not lead to the man being identified we would like to thank the people who contacted us” says Detective Sergeant Nicola Reeves. “The man, 57 year old Graeme Brian Guerin, lived alone in the Edgeware suburb of Christchurch. He was reported missing by his family last night (24 November 2015).”
The death has been referred to the Coroner. Graeme’s family are being supported by Police, Victim Support and close friends and family.
“Police are still piecing together the events prior to Graeme being found on the beach on Sunday. A post-mortem has been completed and Police are not treating his death as suspicious. On behalf of Canterbury Police I would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends” explained Detective Sergeant Reeves.
A spokesperson from Graeme’s family have provided the following comment. “We are still in shock. It doesn’t seem real and we are still getting to grips with the news that Graeme has gone. He was an active man and enjoyed visiting the New Brighton beach area. We would like to thank the members of the public who found him and Police for their support and compassion.”
