Police are looking to locate the owner of this watch after it was found hanging in a tree.

An interesting find by a family in Cromwell has led to some interesting thoughts as to how an expensive watch ended up on a tree.

The family found the watch on Monday after observing a magpie fly from a tree and seeing something metal left behind. As they got closer the watch, which averages in price of around $13-14,000, was hanging in the tree.

The family have uplifted the watch and brought it to the Cromwell Police Station with the unusual tale.

It's unknown how the watch has made it into the tree, however Police can't help but wonder if the magpie had anything to do with the unusual find or if the family have stumbled across the one tree that does grow cash.

If anyone is missing, or knows someone who is missing, a watch like the one in the picture they can contact the Cromwell Police Station on 03 445 1999.
