Police appeal for witnesses to collision with child

1 min read

Canterbury Police are appealing for drivers who witnessed a car collide with a child on a ‘scooter’ at around 8am on 16 October 2015 at the intersection of Redruth Avenue and Selwyn Street to contact them.

Constable Kurt Gillibrand says there was a queue of vehicles stopped on Redruth Avenue at the western side of the junction with Selwyn Street.  “The front vehicle is understood to have signalled for a small boy travelling north along Selwyn Street (west side) to cross the road in front of them.  However after the boy crossed the road another vehicle, similar to a Porsche, with dark coloured windows mounted the pavement on Redruth Avenue to undertake the queue of traffic and turn left onto Selwyn St, colliding with the back of the boy’s scooter.  The vehicle has then continued north along Selwyn Street.”

The boy is understood to have suffered minor injuries to his back and wrist.

Police urge anyone who was in the queue of traffic or witnessed the incident to contact Christchurch Central Police Station on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
