Nice to meet you at Open Day
Nice to meet you! Thanks to the thousands of visitors who took the time to meet their local police at the 2015 Police Open Day.
An estimated 20,000 people attended the combined Auckland City-Counties Manukau Open Day at Ellerslie Raceway, and more than 10,000 visited Christchurch Central Police Station to see what Canterbury Police were up to.
Thousands more got behind the scenes by visiting police stations of all sizes and other venues – such as the Royal New Zealand Police College – around the country on Sunday.
On offer was the opportunity to meet frontline staff, including members of the Armed Offenders Squad and other specialist groups, visit the cells, see crime-busting technology and police vehicles up-close and shake paws with some of our police dogs.
Our ever-popular police puppy soft toys were highly valued prizes. In Auckland a TV3 team took on the tough police fitness test, the PCT.
As well as the police attractions, in Hamilton our Fire Service colleagues set up a simulated vehicle crash scene and rescued a volunteer ‘victim’ from the wrecked car in an exercise with a powerful road safety message.
The nationwide events followed last year’s highly successful first national Police Open Day.
A new date for the Nelson Police Open Day, which was postponed because of bad weather, will be announced soon.
