Canterbury Police can confirm that the driver of the car which was struck by a van travelling west-bound along Salisbury St has died. He was 44 year old Michael James Burnby.
His death has been referred to the Coroner.
The front seat passenger in the car remains in a critical condition in Christchurch Hospital ICU.
