Police hope to release the cordoned areas of Myers Park this evening once the scene examination being carried out by staff working on the David Cerven homicide investigation, named Operation Delaware, is completed.
Auckland City District Commander, Superintendent Richard Chambers, says it's important to ensure as much information as possible is retrieved from the scene.
"We only have one opportunity to carry out such examinations so my staff know it's vital to do things properly and professionally to ensure the integrity of all aspects of the investigation.
"Police Specialist Search Group, ESR scientists and CIB staff have been in the park all day. However, it will be some time before we will be in a position to discuss what answers our inquiries today may have provided to the myriad of questions we all want to know.
"As with any homicide investigation, there are several phases to this one, not least of which is liaison with David Cerven's family in Slovakia. To that end, some of my staff have been working closely with the Consul based in Auckland and, through him, the Slovakian Embassy in Canberra in order to make appropriate arrangements for David.
"The investigation team has much work to do to locate and speak with witnesses and are grateful to members of the public who have already made contact with officers to share their accounts of what they saw.
"If staff haven't spoken formally to people who have witnessed some aspects of last night's tragedy, rest assured they will contact you and arrange to get statements."
