The Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified that a man was shot by Police in Myers Park this evening at about 7.45pm. The man was known to Police who are now in the the process of locating and notifying his next of kin.
Police were called to Myers Park by the man at 7.23pm and, on arrival, attending staff were advised by him that he was armed. Staff then called for armed officers to attend.
Auckland City District Commander, Superintendent Richard Chambers, said verbal negotiations were initiated but were unsuccessful. The man was fatally shot when he indicated he was about to use a firearm. He died at the scene despite immediate assistance being rendered by Police.
