Quantity of lingerie seized following search warrant

1 min read

Canterbury Police have executed a search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation into reports of women’s lingerie/underwear being stolen from washing lines and inside homes at three properties in the Burwood suburb of Christchurch.

Detective Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti says the thefts from three residential properties in Achilles Street were reported to Police during the month of June.  “Some of the stolen items appear to have been taken from the victims washing lines while, worryingly, other items are reported to have gone missing from inside their property.”

“Investigations into the reports led to a search warrant being executed this morning at a property in the area.  A quantity of lingerie/underwear was seized but only some of the items appear to match the description of those reported stolen.  We are appealing to the females living in the Achilles Street area to contact Police if they have not reported similar thefts of their property already.”

Police are unaware of any other items being taken from inside or outside of the victims properties in Achilles Street apart from the women’s lingerie/underwear.

“Thefts such as these have a big impact on victims due to the personal nature of the items being taken.  It is understandable that potential victims may not have contacted Police due to the nature of the crime.  However victims are able to request to speak to a female officer, if they prefer, when they contact Police” explained Detective Sergeant Tarawhiti.

No arrests have been made at this time however Police investigations are continuing.

Canterbury Police are appealing for anyone in that area who may have had female lingerie/underwear stolen from their washing lines or had similar items taken from their property and haven’t reported it already to contact Police by calling 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
