Extra staff deployed to assist flood affected areas

1 min read

Central District Police want to remind those communities affected by flooding and water damage that clean up work is ongoing and we continue to seek their understanding and patience during this time.

Extra staff have been deployed into areas that have been evacuated to ensure they are secure and to provide further assistance to flood affected residents.

Officers are also working closely with Civil Defence, local councils, and volunteers.

Police are urging all people in the Lower North Island especially in the Whanganui and Rangitikei areas to avoid any non-essential travel at this time.

Avoiding any unnecessary travel will greatly assist all the emergency services in dealing with incidents of flooding and related issues that are being reported.

Some roads across the Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatu,  Horowhenua, and Kapiti regions remain closed or down to one lane.

Over the next few days a cold snap is forecast across the District so we ask all drivers to be patient and to drive to the conditions.
