Charges laid in relation to Normanby crash

Hawera Police have today charged three men in relation to the death of Christine Fairweather.

On the evening of 2 August, 2014 Christine got out of her vehicle to move metal barriers that were dangerously blocking the southbound lane of State Highway 3, Normanby when she was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The three Taranaki men, aged 20, 18, and 17 have all been charged with manslaughter and will appear in the Hawera Youth Court today.

As the matter is now before the court Police will make no further comment.

"It has been nearly a year since we lost Christine and the developments in the police investigation have given us some relief. We will now let the legal process progress and we have nothing further to say."
