Police have recovered the crashed vehicle from down a bank on the Whangamoa Saddle, Near Nelson, and it is now in a secure location.
The body has also been recovered and will undergo a post mortem examination. This examination will hopefully confirm the identity of the deceased, however DNA analysis may be required and that may take some time to process.
The vehicle will now be examined by a number of experts including ESR, fire investigators, vehicle inspectors and crash investigators. Police are anticipating receiving some preliminary reports later today although full expert opinion will take time to prepare.
Police hope to complete the scene examination today and are continuing with background inquiries to establish the movements of the Nissan Sunny prior to the crash.
Police would like to thank those people who have come forward to date with information and are still keen to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle between 1 and 2pm on Sunday in the Whangamoa Saddle area.
