Police have arrested two men following a fleeing driver incident which ended in Counties Manukau District.
The two men committed a burglary in Avondale and fled the scene in a stolen car. Police attempted to stop the car but the driver failed to stop.
The Police Eagle helicopter was able to follow the car as it fled the area, allowing Police units to withdraw from a pursuit on the road and reduce further risk to the public.
The car continued to be driven in a reckless manner onto SH20 and into Mangere.
The car was allegedly crashed through numerous residential properties before being driven down a walkway near Viscount School, Mangere.
Upon arrival of a Police dog unit, the two offenders decamped from the stolen car and fled into Viscount School grounds where they were both arrested.
Inspector Shawn Rutene says that Police are concerned at the manner of recklessness and disregard for public safety exhibited by these offenders.
“It’s disappointing to see this level of offending where this driver has shown no regard for the safety of other road users or pedestrians.”
Two men aged 19 and 18 are now assisting Police with inquiries and will face a number of charges.
