Canterbury Police are investigating a reported sexual assault of a female in a vehicle parked in an enclosed yard off Dickeys Road at around 2.15pm on 7 April 2015 and are appealing for the public’s help to identify the offender.
Detective Wayne Boyd said “The 22 year old victim, who was visibly upset, was sitting outside Mico Wakefields by the bus stop on Cranford Street shortly after 2 pm on 7 April 2015 when a passing motorist stopped to check she was ok. Police understand that the motorist offered her a lift to the bus stop on Main North Road.”
“In her heightened emotional state the victim accepted the man’s offer as she thought it was only a short distance to the bus stop on Main North Road. The offender is reported to have driven the victim to the motorway end of Main North Road where he turned into Dickeys Road and parked in an enclosed logging yard approximately 300 metres from the intersection” explained Detective Boyd.
The victim is understood to have been sexually assaulted by the man in his car for some time before he dropped her off at Main North Road near Johns Road. She is being supported by Canterbury Police and Victim Support.
The man is described as Maori, 30-40 years old, clean shaven wearing a white t-shirt and long ‘Dickey’ brand shorts which reached below his knee. He was driving a dirty white coloured early model Mazda Familia 4 door sedan with tinted rear lights. The vehicle was clean and tidy inside.
Canterbury Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a car or man matching this description near Cranford Street and Dickeys road or can identify the man.
