Young visitors send their thanks
Thanks Police! Staff at the Royal New Zealand Police College (RNZPC) have received a welcome souvenir from their young visitors from Tuhoe.
Some of the children who visited the college in February felt moved to create thank-you cards, which arrived at the RNZPC last month.
The children seem to have particularly fond memories of the dogs they met and the police vehicles they saw – but the college kai also gets a mention.
The college hosted 73 children from three schools around Ruatoki, along with accompanying adults. Commissioner Mike Bush had extended an invitation during his visits to Tuhoe to apologise for some of Police’s actions during the termination of Operation 8 in 2007.
Superintendent John Price, National Manager Training and Development, says the cards reflect the positive impact of the visit on the tamariki.
“It was a privilege to be able to host the tamariki and whenu here on behalf of the Commissioner and give them a positive experience and view of policing,” he says.
“Everyone across the RNZPC enjoyed having the tamariki here and they thoroughly enjoyed our facilities and interacting with our police team. It’s very special they took the time and trouble to write and express their gratitude.”
