Wellington farewells the ICC Cricket World Cup with Black Caps win

1 min read

A near capacity crowd has enjoyed a spectacular game of cricket at Wellington Regional Stadium as New Zealand have beaten the West Indies this evening in the last of the semi final games.

With no arrests and only 14 people evicted over the course of the match, Operation Commander for the event, Inspector Brett Amas says that’s  a great result thanks to a well behaved crowd.

“It was a great game on the field, the crowd was positive and focussed on enjoying the cricket, which created a fantastic atmosphere said Mr Amas.

"Patrols around the city and waterfront have reported no issues requiring Police assistance and we hope this continues into the night."

“We’ll continue our presence through the city to ensure that everyone experiences a safe and enjoyable night in the capital."

“Wellington Police have enjoyed being part of the ICC Cricket World Cup, which has run very smoothly from our perspective and is a credit to Wellington Regional Stadium and the ICC Cricket World Cup organisers.”
