Canterbury Police were impressed by the positive behaviour of revellers across the District on St Patrick’s Day yesterday (17 March 2015).
The officer overseeing the District-wide St Patrick’s Day operation, Inspector Paul Fremaux, said “The fun atmosphere continued throughout the day and while the entertainment areas and some licensed premises were very busy there were no issues with disorder or crime. We are encouraged at the responsible approach taken by those who chose to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and how many people were ‘good mates’ and looking out for each other.”
The positive behaviour wasn’t limited to the licensed premises and entertainment areas and anecdotal feedback from Road Policing officers suggests there was no increase in the number of drivers stopped for drink-driving.
“We are proud of the communities in our Police District and the message to not drive if you are planning on drinking alcohol seems to have been taken to heart by those celebrating last night. Canterbury Police would like to thank everyone for making St Patrick’s Day 2015 one to remember for the right reasons and hope this sets the tone for celebrations throughout the year” says Inspector Paul Fremaux.

‘Good One’ is a joint initiative established as a direct result of the work of Canterbury Police’s Neighbourhood Police Team and discussions with ACC, CDHB, HPA Canterbury and Lincoln Universities and their Student Associations. This provides an opportunity for Police and other organisations to work with hosts and their local community to prevent party-related problems before they occur so that everyone can socialise in a safe and responsible manner.
