Canterbury Police are appealing for the public’s help in an ongoing investigation after a brother and sister were assaulted in Woolston at around midnight on Saturday 14 March 2015.

Senior Constable Mike Phillips said “A man and two women are understood to have started assaulting the man and his sister when they reached the corner of Ferry Road and Oak Street.   The three assailants have continued the assault until the group was near the corner of Ferry Road and Radley Street.  They are then reported to have fled the scene and got into a grey Subaru station wagon, possibly a Legacy or similar model, that was parked on Radley Street and driven south along Radley Street.”

The 26 year old woman was taken to Christchurch Hospital with serious facial injuries and multiple fractures after allegedly being stomped on.  Her brother sustained minor injuries but was taken to hospital with his sister as a precaution.

“The victim has very serious injuries and it is lucky that she wasn’t more seriously injured.  She was discharged from Christchurch Hospital yesterday (15 March 2015) and is due to have surgery later this month” explained Senior Constable Phillips.

The three assailants are described as:  male Samoan, approximately 22-25 years of age, 175cm (5ft 9in) tall, solid build wearing a red trucker style cap and a white t-shirt or singlet; female Maori, approximately 20-25 years of age, large build, no description of clothing; female Maori, approximately 17-18 years of age, slight build and wearing a black jacket with a fluffy hood.

“The investigative team are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault, recognises the three assailants or saw the group elsewhere in Woolston on Saturday night/Sunday morning.  We also urge anyone who saw the grey Subaru driving along Radley Street shortly after midnight on Saturday or has any other information that may assist the ongoing inquiry to contact us” said Senior Constable Phillips.

Canterbury Police and Victim Support are working with the victim and her brother who are understandably traumatised and very upset.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, can identify any of the people described, saw the vehicle or has any information that may assist the investigation is asked to call Canterbury Police on 03 363 7400, option 1.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at http://www.crimestoppers-nz.org/
