Counties Manukau Police will be putting its best foot forward in Pukekohe on Friday (6 March) for the annual Counties Manukau Police District Pay Parade and Awards Ceremony.
The event will attended by Police Commissioner Mike Bush, who was previously District Commander, Counties Manukau. Mayor Len Brown and local Members of Parliament will also be in attendance.
Counties Manukau Police District Commander Superintendent John Tims says the occasion is an important tradition.
“The Pay Parade is a great opportunity for to present at our best for the community of Franklin and the wider Counties Manukau District. Everyone in the District works together to achieve the best outcome and the parade will demonstrate that sense of unity.
“We’re also looking forward to showing Commissioner Mike Bush that Counties Manukau is a District that he can be proud to have come from and show that we are proud to serve our community. It is this sense of pride that enables us to continue to make Counties Manukau a safe place for everyone.”
The tradition of the Pay Parade comes from the requirement for Police officers to march to the local magistrate's office every fortnight in their dress uniform and pass inspection before getting their pay packet.
With over 200 staff members marching including uniformed Police officers, Detectives and Police employees, the parade will be held in Pukekohe at 9:30am from Pukekohe Police Station, along King Street and Edinburgh Street to the Pukekohe Town Hall. Police dogs, horses, motorbikes and pipe band will also march in the parade.
Counties Manukau Police encourage members of the public to come along to see the parade, which will take approximately 15 minutes.
Once the parade is inspected by Commissioner Bush, the District Awards Ceremony will taken place at the nearby Pukekohe Town Hall. This ceremony is an opportunity for Police to recognise the great work and bravery of staff and members of the public.
