As the search of a Whangamata home where a man died in suspicious circumstances continues into its second day, Eastern Waikato Police say a number of other examinations are also underway.
Eastern Waikato Area Investigations Manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Pitkethley, said a homicide investigation commenced early yesterday morning after emergency services called to an Achilles Ave property discovered the body of a man believed aged in his seventies.
"About 20 staff from across the Waikato are working on our inquiry which has been titled Operation Tiger.
"The scene examination of the property will continue into its second day today and will be conducted by our staff and ESR forensic experts brought in from Auckland."
Mr Pitkethley said while this and an area canvas of local residents continues, other staff will be working to complete the formal identification process of the victim.
"We have also sent detectives to Auckland where a post-mortem examination will be conducted after the victim's body was removed from the property late yesterday afternoon.
"Investigators are continuing to speak to an occupant from the address who is assisting us with our enquiries, to date no arrests have been made in relation to the incident."
Mr Pitkethley said Police are still appealing for anyone in the vicinity of the property early yesterday morning who hasn't already spoken to detectives to contact the enquiry team at the Whangamata Police Station on 07 865 0300.
