At around 11.40am this morning as the Police Eagle Helicopter continued the search for missing swimmer Johnny Faitaua, officers on board saw a deceased person in the water, just off the Bethells and O'Neills Beach peninsula.
Police Search and Rescue staff and local Surf Club members retrieved the person from the water. Formal identification will take place tomorrow.
At this stage Police are unable to say whether it is in fact Mr Faitaua, and more information isn't expected until at least tomorrow afternoon.
