Levin Police want to speak to anyone that witnessed a young man being knocked unconscious outside a pub in the early hours on the morning of Saturday 10 January, 2015.
At about 2:30am on the Saturday a large group of people were outside the Molotov Pub in Levin after having been ushered out after the pub closed.
Two males had been having a disagreement prior to exiting the pub and the situation quickly escalated outside, between them and their group of friends.
A large fight has then broken out between the two groups who were aged in their early to mid 20s. As a result a 24-year-old man, who was the friend of one of the two males, has been punched in the head and rendered unconscious.
Detective Darcy Parke of the Levin CIB says: "The victim was transported from the scene by ambulance and taken to Palmerston North Hospital for assessment. His condition deteriorated the next day and he was airlifted to Wellington Hospital where he remains in a critical condition with his family at his bedside."
"While we are currently speaking with some people who were at the scene, we know there were about 50 people outside the pub at the time and we want to speak to anyone that witnessed the assault. If you were at the pub please do the right thing and speak up and contact Police."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Parke on (06) 210 2210. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
