A diligent member of the Ashburton community contacted Police when they observed three unknown males enter a property on East street in Ashburton on Tuesday (6 January 2015).
Senior Sergeant Scott Banfield, Officer in Charge of Ashburton Police, says “We would like to thank the community minded Ashburton resident for taking the time to alert Police to the suspicious activity at a neighbouring property. The prompt reporting of this suspicious activity allowed officers to reach the scene before anyone tried to gain entry to any buildings.“
“Police officers located and arrested three local males aged 16, 19 and 20 years old. The 16 and 19 year each given a warning for being unlawfully on the property. The 20 year old man is due to appear in Ashburton District Court on 19 January 2014 charged with a number of charges including being unlawfully on the property“

Canterbury Police urge members of the community to look out for each other over the summer and report any suspicious activity or unknown people on your neighbour’s property to Police straight away. Secure any tools you may have used in the garden in a locked shed when you’ve finished using them so opportunistic burglars cannot use them to gain entry to any buildings on your property.
