Levin Police appeal for information after aggravated robbery

1 min read

Levin Police are investigating an aggravated robbery of a 22-year-old woman which occurred on the evening of Thursday the 11th December, 2014.

At about 8pm the woman was walking with her 2-year-old daughter, who was in a pram, on Bath Street, Levin. She was walking towards Winchester Street by Remembrance Park.

Detective Sergeant Peter Vine of the Levin CIB says: "The woman was approached by a group of four people; two males and two females believed to be in their mid to late twenties. The group demanded money from the woman and after she told them she had none they grabbed the pram with her child in it and then her handbag. She tried to hold onto both but was pushed and separated from the pram. The group damaged her cellular phone and took her purse which had some cash in it before they ran off."

The victim, who is also pregnant, suffered a sore arm and was clearly distressed, along with her daughter, as a result. Police and the woman's family are closely supporting them after the ordeal.

"This is a cowardly attack and those responsible will be held to full account for their disgusting actions. We encourage anyone that witnessed the attack or saw a group of teenagers in the Remembrance Park and Bath Street area around 8pm to contact Police," says Detective Sergeant Vine.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Sean Heron on (06) 210 2198. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
