Whanganui Police are investigating the serious assault of a female security officer on the grounds of the Whanganui Hospital in the early hours of Monday 8 December 2014.

The officer aged in her 30’s, was completing foot patrols in the lower area of the hospital grounds at the time of the assault. She had earlier responded to an alarm activation in a hospital workshop building.

The officer was found in an un-consious state by hospital staff and transported to the Hospital for treatment. She was treated overnight for concusion and bruising and has now been discharged and is recovering at home with family.

A Police scene examination is underway in the area where the officer was found. It is expected that this examination will be completed later today. Police are also viewing CCTV footage obtained from the hospital grounds.

It is not clear at this time as to whether the earlier alarm activation in the hospital workshop building and the assault on the female officer are linked.

It is believed that two males wearing dark clothing are involved.

Whanganui Police are interested in any sightings of these two males or any persons acting suspiously in and around the Whanganui Hospital grounds between 1am and 5am on the morning of the 8th of December 2014.
