1 min read

Kaikohe Police have arrested a 23-year-old man following an aggravated robbery in the town today.

About 7.50am a man entered the East End Dairy on Broadway armed with a hunting knife and demanded cash from the two staff. The staff members complied with the man’s request and he then ran off with some cash.

The man was followed by a member of the public to the Heke Street area. He then ran through properties and into nearby farm land.  Police responded quickly to the incident and were able to secure the area where the offender was believed to have taken cover.

A police dog unit dispatched from Whangärei was able to track the offender to where he had concealed himself and he was arrested at 9.30am. The knife and cash were recovered.

The Kaikohe man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court today charged with aggravated robbery.

Senior Sergeant Brian Swann has praised the calm actions of the dairy staff which ensured no one was injured in the robbery and the quick response of the member of the public whose actions in following the offender from a safe distance directly contributed to the offender’s arrest.
