Canterbury Police were alerted to a fatal motorcycle crash on Gebbies Pass Road a few hundred metres from the Teddington intersection (Governors Bay Teddington Road with Charteris Bay Road) just before 6pm last night (30 November 2014).

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which is thought to have occurred a short time prior to a member of the public coming across the scene and reporting it to emergency services.

The death has been referred to the Coroner and no details of the deceased motorcycle rider will be released until next of kin are fully informed.

Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.

The motorcycle is believed to have been heading west along Gebbies Pass Road when it appears to have drifted across the road, onto the grass verge and travelled a short distance before colliding with a tree.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who drove along Gebbies Pass Road yesterday afternoon, particularly any large vehicles or vehicles pulling a trailer, as they may be able to help with their inquiries.

If you were travelling to/through the Teddington intersection, witnessed the crash or saw a dark coloured motorcycle heading along Gebbies Pass yesterday (late-afternoon) please contact Christchurch Police by calling 03 423 1381.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
