The Police Dive Squad is searching the area where a scuba diver died in Northland yesterday morning.
Garry William Pitman, aged 56 years, of Whangarei was diving with two others off North Cape. Mr Pitman floated to the surface without his gear. He was unresponsive and the others on board the boat tried to revive him, however he died at the scene.
The Police Dive Squad is now searching the area where Mr Pitman was diving to recover his missing diving gear.
A post mortem is being carried out in Auckland today and the incident has been referred to the Coroner.
