Update – Foetus found in water treatment plant

1 min read

Police are able to confirm that a post mortem has been completed on the foetus found in the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant on 1 October 2014.

The gestation of the foetus is estimated to have been approximately 18-20 weeks, a period that would be incompatible with the ability to sustain life.

The matter has been referred to the Coroner.

There are still no indications that anything suspicious has occurred but Police would like to identify the mother to ensure that she has received the appropriate support and medical care.

Police are appealing for the mother or any members of the public, medical profession or support groups that may have been in contact with her to please contact Christchurch Police on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
