Ashburton search completed

1 min read

The Police team investigating last week’s shooting in Ashburton have completed an intensive underwater and riverbank search of the Ashburton River area and located a number of items of interest to the investigation.  The teams involved in the search included Police divers from wellington, specialist Police search teams, Police firearms dog handlers and dogs and Search and Rescue (SAR).

Police are still seeking information relating to a 1985 model white Mitsubishi Mirage GLX 5-door hatch.  Police believe the man arrested in relation to the incident had this vehicle in his possession on the 5/6  August this year but it’s current whereabouts is unknown.

The investigation team would like to thank everyone who has stayed away from the Ashburton River area while the extensive search has taken place.  If anyone using the Ashburton River area this weekend comes across any personal items that might be related to the investigation, including the additional firearm and ammunition, they are asked to not pick it up but to mark the area and call Police in Ashburton immediately.

If you believe you have any information that may help with locating the white 1985 Mitsubishi Mirage GLX or any personal items call Ashburton police on (03) 307 8400.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
