Police are continuing with the scene examination of the fatal fire at Managamuka.
They are being assisted by the New New Zealand Defence Force Bomb Disposal Unit, which is clearing any firearms that have been located and making the scene safe, in particular dealing with ammunition in the house. Several firearms have been located,
Detective Kevin Burke says the scene examination is a painstaking process with time and care required due to heat generated by the fire and to maintain the integrity of some fragile exhibits.
A pathologist and forensic dentist are also assisting police at the scene. The body of the man has been removed from the scene this morning and a post mortem will be carried out in Auckland later this afternoon.
The next of kin are being notified of the man's death and police will not be releasing his name at this stage.
